Policeman Attacked With a Bottle, Needs 22 Stitches

An on-duty police officer was left needing 22 stitches after he was attacked with a bottle outside a bar in south London.
Police were called to Lucy 1st in Stockwell in the early hours of Sunday after a fight broke out between a group of young men and security door staff.
As a uniformed officer took statements in Clapham Road, some members of the group who had been involved in the altercation returned, Scotland Yard said.
The officer tried to stop more fighting from breaking out and, as he attempted to detain one of the groups, he had a bottle thrown at his head.
He suffered a serious injury and was rushed to hospital where he received 22 stitches.
Lambeth Chief Superintendent Richard Wood said: “This dedicated response officer has sustained 22 stitches to the head after being assaulted whilst performing his duties. He was attacked as he worked to detain a volatile suspect.
“His bravery and commitment in tackling this suspect is typical of the hundreds of response team officers in London who work 24/7 to catch criminals and put themselves in harms way to keep the public safe. I wish him a speedy recovery.
“We have made four arrests and enquiries continue to work to apprehend others suspected to be involved in this incident.”
Four males aged 17 to 18 were arrested on suspicion of violent disorder. One has been bailed and the remaining three arrested released with no further action.
A man aged 18 was arrested on suspicion of violent disorder as a result of the initial fight involving the group and security staff.
Detectives are appealing for information and witnesses after the incident which happened at about 1am.
