We are about to embark on our first Ugu vegetable farming in Lagos and will like you to tag along with us. We will try as much as possible to update this thread as soon as we have new information. Feel free to ask questions, and bring up suggestions.
Ugu is one of the most sort after vegetables in Nigeria, the demand for ugu knows no boundary thus making it a backyard ATM. Ugu takes about 40 days to be ready for harvesting, and can be continually harvested for about 6 to 12 months depending on the type. We will be getting into this later in the thread. Ugu is also very easy to transport and market.
Step1: Securing a land. This is definitely the most difficult part. It was a thug of war trying to get a suitable land for this venture as we had to deal with land grabbers and Omo onile wahala. It took almost 3 months to get past this huddle and it was all by the grace of God. This aspect of the project is something you have to pay very close attention to if you ever decide to embark on farming business in Lagos.
Step 2: Preparing the land. After much consultations with some experts in the field, we decided to implement the methodology below.
Shopping for the ugu pods (seeds); somewhere in the eastern part of Nigeria. We spent a considerable amount of time doing this as we have to travel across many towns and cities in search of this precious seeds. One of the reason why it took us a while was because this time of the year is considered off season thus making it very challenging. I will be posting more pictures tomorrow and also will be updating you on the outcome of our trip.
